Spring Project
As I was wasting time on the internet this afternoon, when I really should have been organizing my closet, I came across this great idea!
I would love to make the framed chalkboard for Arabella's playroom! I just may be getting to "crafty" for my own good. But hey, I do need something to pass the time when my Little Bean is napping!

Le Petite Gym
I am jumping up and down with excitement and I am not even the one who is doing the class! Arabella, loved, loved, loved le Petite Gym! She had so much fun running around, singing and trying out the gymnastics equipment. I am able to stay with her in the class and the instructors teach you the proper way to spot when Arabella is on the equipment. The class starts with singing in a circle and then they do some warm up activities (the walk in a circle, run, hop and jump). We did a game with the parachute today, and the kids enjoyed that. Once they are warmed up, they are allowed to explore the equipment. At the end of class they sing in the circle again to relax them.
Arabella loved the uneven bars, which had my almost in tears since that was my favorite when I was doing gymnastics. She wanted to do it over and over again. She would just pull herself up and do chin ups, which was pretty impressive. She also would pull her legs up like she was going to try and flip over the bar. The instructor spotted her one time and she was impressed with her strength! Arabella also seemed to enjoy walking on the balance beam. They had two for her to walk on, one was right at ground level and the other was about 3 feet off the ground. She walked right up the stairs that they had next to the beam and them proceed to walk the entire length. She did hold our hands, but was not scared at all. She also had fun swinging from the rings. She is fearless and I am amazed by her strength. I am already looking forward to next weeks class and I think she is too! She didn't want to leave.
As an aside, I would normally post pictures, but Jay forgot the camera in the lobby and I think he didn't want to look silly taking pictures...maybe I can get him to snap a few next week...my fingers are crossed!

When all else fails, check the bathtub
Yesterday morning, I left Arabella playing in her bedroom. She has a thing with organizing, she will remove everything from her drawers and then put it all back in, just the way she wants it. Not only does she do this with her clothes, but her toys, crayons, books, DVD's and my things as well. She especially likes the bin that I have with all of my hair products in it. She could be entertained for hours taking all the various gels, straighten potions, sprays, etc. out and then putting them back just they way she wants them. Anyway, as I was getting ready, it got awfully quiet, so I went to check on her to see what she was up to. When it is that quiet, she can usually be found reading one of her many books. I looked where she likes to sit, she wasn't there, I checked my office, the guest room and even went to the first floor to see if she went searching for Jay who was working from home...not anywhere. On my way back upstairs, I finally heard sounds coming from her bathroom. I pulled back the shower curtain and this is what I found:
It was the cutest thing, she and teddy were all ready to take a bath! Next time, I will be checking the bathtub first!

Today I picked up the pottery that I painted last Thursday night at Mom's Night Out. A group of us from the Wee Wiggles met at Artista Cafe and had so much fun. It was nice to get out, joke, and laugh with other mom's. I decided to paint a tea pot...and boy was I in over my head. It takes a lot of concentration and creativity to paint pottery - two traits that I am short on, at least when it comes to arts and crafts. And to make matter's worse, we were not completely focused on our painting - we were enjoying sushi and drinks as well! It is hard to tell what the colors would look like once it was glazed and fired. So we left, all unsure of how the pottery would turn out. I was midly, no make that shocked, to see it completed today!

La Fete des Neiges
Today was a balmy -5 out so we bundled up and headed to Parc Jean-Drapeau for La Fete des Neiges also known as the Snow Festival. There was a lot to do including tube sliding, ice or boot hockey, kick sledding, and skating along Saint Lawrence River. We brought Arabella's sled and pulled her around in that. It was a great investment and a great way for her to get around in the snow! They also had a play area for the younger kids, as well as, snow sculptures and a snow carving area.
Arabella went snow tubing for the first time. At first she did not like it, they she did and then she had had enough.
Jay tried a Queues de Castor (a/k/a Beaver Tail). A Queues de Castor is a Canadian pastry made of whole-wheat dough, shaped like a much-respected national symbol: a beaver's tail. Fried in oil, it is served hot with a variety of toppings like cinnamon and sugar, chocolate hazelnut, maple butter, and apple cinnamon. To me it was just very thin fried dough with way too much cinnamon sugar and apple pie filling. Jay enjoyed it, Arabella liked the part with out the apple pie filling and it was too sweet for me so I will just stick to regular fried dough with powdered sugar.
Arabella enjoyed the trampoline with Dad and once again did not want to leave when her time was up. I really do think we have a little gymnast on our hands!
We also made Maple Syrup Candy. This is done by pouring hot maple syrup on snow and then allowing it to cool some before twisting it up on a stick. It was good, but again, Jay enjoyed it more than I did. I am not a huge maple fan so for me, after a few bites, I was good.
On the way out, we walked by the snow sculptures.
We had a great time and the fresh air wore us all out. Arabella fell right to sleep and I am sure that Jay and I will hit the pillows like a ton of bricks. Although, Jay and I do need to remember that we need to wear our ski pants for outdoor activities and not just jeans with long johns. At the end of the day, my legs were frozen...just like the St. Lawrence River below!

Swimming in -30 degree weather
Arabella and I joined a few other Wee Wiggles on Friday morning for swimming in -30 degree weather...well at least that was how cold it was outside. Inside the Aquadome it was a balmy 26 c (or 80 f) and we had so much fun. The Aquadome is a great indoor water facility with 2 large pools. One is used for laps and group classes and the one we used has slides, a fountain and a beach entry. Arabella loved that she could just walk right in. She had a lot of fun going down a small slide by herself and would have done so all afternoon!
Arabella could have stayed all day. Her lips were blue and her teeth were chattering, but she still wanted to play in the water. I had to drag her away! It was a fun afternoon and let us pretend that we were in warm weather even if it was only for a few hours! We will be bringing Jay back for some more Fun in the Winter Sun!

First Wee Wiggles Outing
Toady Arabella and I had our first Wee Wiggles outing. We met up with other members at Funtropolis. Funtropolis is an indoor playground that has multi-leveled play maze, trampolines, 3 giant slides, ball pits and other activities. They have a special enclosed area for kids under 3 so they are out of the way of the older kids which is nice. Arabella loved the trampoline and had lots of fun in the ball pit. It was nice to start to meet the other members of the Mom's Group, everyone that we met was very nice and welcoming! I think we are both going to have fun with the Wee Wiggles.
The only thing that was able to put a damper on our fun afternoon...the Montreal police. Supposedly, I was speeding, 76 km in a 50 km zone (everything is in the metric system so roughly that converts to 47 in a 30 mph zone). The police officer was not very nice at all and after thinking about the situation the ride home, I believe that her singled me out because of the Ohio license plates that are on the car. We are working on importing my car and obtaining Quebec plates now. Anyway, I "pled" my case to Jay and he agrees that it would be very hard for me to have been going that speed based on the fact that I had just stopped at a stop sign, traffic conditions (traffic was bordering on heavy) and the road conditions (they roads were wet as it had been snowing all day0. The fine is $125 and Jay thinks that I should plead not guilty. I need to do a little more research on the Canadian/Quebec legal system before I plead not guilty...I have 30 days to decide. Stay tuned!
