How Does Your Garden Grow - Summer 2014

This Summer we have been watching our garden grow.  Arabella loves to plant and has since she was little.  And I think Maxton has a bit of a green thumb too...maybe because he likes to do whatever his sister does or just because he is a boy and a garden involves dirt and getting messy!  We didn't have a big area to work with and we might have planted a few too many plants that would take up a lot of room.  The pumpkin needed to be transplanted to a different place in the yard - which didn't go so well and the watermelon and cucumbers took over the garden.  Our tomato plants grew huge but didn't yield too many red tomato's.  Arabella and I have already started talking about how we would like to do things next Summer.  Nonetheless, it was still fun to watch the plants grow and we did manage to get some fruits from our labor.  And the most important part is that Arabella and Max had fun looking for the fruits and veggies while they grew and then enjoying the fresh from the garden taste!

In July, after we returned from Montreal, this is what the garden looked like!  It was a jungle and we managed to pick some cherry tomato's.

The transplanted pumpkin plant...it was doing OK...

Arabella and our huge basil plant!

We started to see the baby pumpkins grow.  We had a few zucchini appear and the cucumbers got bigger!

Huge cucumber...it wasn't fully green but it still tasted yummy!

Cucumber vine growing up the house!
 Pumpkins!

Seriously, this is a huge cucumber!

And this is what I mean about a jungle.  We had a gold finch visit out basil plant many times and the lizards loved to play and hide on the plants!

And in August, things got really crazy...

So excited to find a watermelon!

Tomato plants as tall as Jay...Over 6 feet high!
Cucumbers on the fence!  Crazy!
